England Hockey World cup 2023: England finished second to champions Australia in the 1986 Hockey World Cup, which was held in London. They won the bronze medal at the first Commonwealth Games hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, as well as in Glasgow in 2014 and Birmingham in 2022. England Hockey is pleased to announce the team that has been selected to represent England in the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in India, which will take place from January 13 to 29, 2023.
England’s squad in this, the 15th edition of the Men’s World Cup, combines experience with exciting talent, and they hope to continue their progress after a successful Commonwealth Games this summer. It is the first World Cup for nine members of the squad: James Albery, Nick Bandurak, David Goodfield, James Mazarelo, Nick Park, Ollie Payne, Stuart Rushmere, Tom Sorsby, and Sam Ward. The others were all members of the team that finished fourth in 2018, and Harry Martin and David Condon will be competing in their third World Cup.
David Ames returns from injury to captain the team, with James Albery and Zach Wallace serving as vice captains. Brendan Creed and Ian Sloan, both highly experienced players, will accompany the squad as reserves.
Participants in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 are divided into four groups known as Pools. A Total of 16 Teams will compete for FIH Hockey World Cup 2023. The pools are as Follows:
