Hajime Moriyasu Announces Japan Squad for World Cup

Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu Announces 26 man Japan Squad for World Cup World Cup Squad

Japan Manager Hajime Moriyasu announced his 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday,

“I’ve made the best, comprehensive selection possible placing importance on our activities thus far, the situations the players are facing (at their clubs) and with how we plan to play at the World Cup in mind,” “There really are lots of players in all positions that could have been picked. It was extremely difficult.” Hajime Moriyasu said.

Japan History in World Cups

Japan have reached the knockout stage of the tournament three times, the most of any Asian nation, and Moriyasu reiterated Japan’s ambition is “reaching the last eight” for the first time in their seventh straight appearance.

Experience players of Japan

Captain Maya Yoshida and Hiroki Sakai will play their third straight World Cups at the back. Experienced defender Yuto Nagatomo, 36, will travel to his fourth straight finals along with 39-year-old goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima and midfielders Wataru Endo and Gaku Shibasaki are the only players with over 100 international appearances, with Kawashima close behind at 95.

The experience of veteran players is important, but players with no experience have that ambition of wanting to win a World Cup, and that’s what we put our hope in as we made our selections, We never know what might happen. Players (not picked) have equivalent abilities and I hope they retain their will to fight for Japan,” Moriyasu said.

The upcoming tournament in Qatar will in many ways be Japan’s greatest World Cup challenge yet, with former champions Germany and Spain as well as 2014 quarterfinalist Costa Rica in Group E

Moriyasu’s side will play a warm-up game against Canada on Nov. 17 in Dubai in the UAE.
