Mumbai Indians 2023 (MI – IPL 2023) : The 16th edition of the IPL 2023 will once again witness 10 teams battling it out for the coveted trophy. Gujarat Titans – who are the winners of the IPL 2022 – will be looking to defend their title next year in IPL 2023. In the IPL 2023 Auction MI have also made the list of released and retained players public ahead of the mini IPL auction slated to be held in December.
In total, the team has released 13 players from their squad while they have retained a total of 15 players from the previous season’s squad. They have also exchanged one player with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and have added Jason BehrendOrff to their squad. So, now their squad is made up of 16 players. They have currently 9 slots available to be filled with 3 reserved for overseas players. MI are the only team with five IPL titles and the only team apart from Super Kings to successfully defend their title in 2020.

Available balance with the MI 2023: In the IPL auction 2023 each team is subject to a total salary cap of INR 95 crores. This amount is 5 Cr more than the previous season. However all ten franchises have used a portion of their salary cap because they have retained some players. MI has so far spent 74.45 Cr on retaining the 15 players. Now, they have 20.55 Cr left in their purse to fill the rest of the Players slots.

MI 2023 Global Role: Jayawardene, who was the head coach at Mumbai Indians since 2017, has been elevated to the global head of performance and Zaheer Khan who was the director of cricket operations till last season is now the global head of cricket development. They will both be involved with all three teams owned by the group. Jayawardene and Zaheer have worked closely since the latter joined the support staff at Mumbai Indians in 2018. In 91 matches since then, Mumbai Indians’ win-loss ratio of 1.289 has been the best among the original eight IPL teams.
MI 2023 Bowling Coach: Former New Zealand speedster Shane Bond is the MI coach IPL 2023 for bowling. Bond was one of the top fast bowlers of his era. He played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Shane Bond retired from all forms of the game in 2010. He was the bowling coach of the New Zealand cricket team from 2012 to 2015. Bond has even had coaching stints with Big Bash League teams Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder.
MI 2023 Fielding Coach: Former Auckland cricketer James Pamment is the fielding coach of the Mumbai Indians team. Pamment was born in England. Pamment had a brief stint as the fielding coach of the United States team. The Mumbai Indians appointed him as their fielding coach in 2017. He replaced South Africa’s legendary player Jonty Rhodes.
